The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has taken a big decision. CBSE is going to make a big change in the curriculum pattern of affiliated schools. This will benefit the students a lot. CBSE plans to change the curriculum pattern of classes 11th and 12th. Under the change, students of class 11th and 12th will now get the option to choose Science and Maths. CBSE is going to make these changes under the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Let us know what CBSE's plan is to change the curriculum pattern. When will it be implemented? How will it be implemented? Let us understand in detail…

STEM curriculum will be implemented at two levels

Under the new scheme of CBSE, now after class 10th, i.e., in class 11th and 12th, Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) curriculum will be implemented at two levels. Under this scheme, children of higher secondary classes can choose the option of science and math in STEM as per their convenience.

Let's try to understand this with an example. Till now, after passing 10th, any student gets the option to choose Humanities, Commerce, and Science streams. If a student chooses science stream, then he gets to study math along with science subjects, while there is no option to study math alone. Now, under the new system, after passing 10th, if a student wants to study science, then he will not have to study math under compulsion.

This system is currently applicable till 10th

This system is currently applicable in classes up to 10th in schools across the country, including CBSE, under which, after passing 8th, students have to take two levels for science and social science. This includes advanced and basic curriculum. On the same lines, there is a plan to implement STEM curriculum in two levels in 11th and 12th.

Will be implemented from the year 2026-27
The change in curriculum pattern in CBSE schools will be implemented from the year 2026-27. Preparations have been started for this. Overall, this initiative of CBSE is to provide goal-oriented education to the students. This will provide relief to the students. At the same time, from the year 2026-27, the 10th examination will be conducted twice a year.
