These exams will be conducted until August 4, 2026. The Board has issued essential guidelines for students, schools, and examination centers ahead of the exams. Which students must take the practical exam?
According to CBSE, the practical exam is mandatory only for students in the following two categories:
Students in the 'Repeat Practical' (RP) category
Students in the 'Repeat Theory and Practical Both' (RB) category

RP (Repeat Practical) | Only the practical exam needs to be taken; previous theory marks will remain valid.
RB (Repeat Theory and Practical Both) | Both theory and practical exams must be taken.
Where will the exam be held?
Regular students will take the practical exam at their own schools.
Private students will take the exam at the same center designated for their theory exam.
If a center lacks the practical facilities for a specific subject, the concerned CBSE Regional Office will make arrangements at a nearby school or examination center.
Board's instructions regarding uploading marks
CBSE has stated that only the answer booklets provided by the Regional Office are to be used for the practical exams. It is mandatory to upload the students' marks to the CBSE portal on the same day the exam concludes. The Board has also clarified that no changes to the marks will be accepted once they have been uploaded.
What are the responsibilities of schools and Regional Offices?
The Board has instructed schools to prepare a list of eligible students, arrange for an external examiner from the Regional Office if necessary, and inform students about the exam date and time in advance. Meanwhile, instructions have been issued to regional offices to prepare lists categorized by examination center and subject, appoint external examiners on time, and ensure the timely completion of the practical examination and marks-uploading process.
