CBSE Class 10: Students with Compartments to Get Three Chances to Pass—Find Out When They Can Appear for the Exam..
CBSE Class 10th Compartment Exam: In the Class 10 results released by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), a total of 147,172 students across the country have received a 'Compartment' status. Under CBSE's two-board-examination system, students with a Compartment will be granted three opportunities to pass. Under this new system, students who received a Compartment in their Class 10 results will get their first opportunity to improve their performance in May 2026, in the form of an improvement examination.
If unsuccessful in the first attempt, a second opportunity will be provided in February 2027, and a third and final opportunity in May 2027. If a student fails to pass even after these attempts, they will be required to retake the examinations for all subjects.
The Board has discontinued the provision allowing students to appear for examinations with an 'additional subject' after having passed Class 10. Permission to take additional subjects will no longer be granted once a student has successfully cleared Class 10.
Re-evaluation Facility Available After Results of the Second Examination:
Online facilities for obtaining photocopies of answer sheets, verification of marks, and re-evaluation will be available for both examinations (the first and the second) only after the results of the second examination have been declared. These facilities can be utilized for the purpose of securing admission to Class 11.
Separate 'List of Candidates' (LOC) to be Submitted for the Second Examination:
To be eligible to improve their performance in the second examination, students needed to have appeared in the first main examination. A separate 'List of Candidates' (LOC) will be submitted for those students who wish to improve their performance or who have received a Compartment. No new names will be added to the LOC during this second submission phase. The process for this will commence on April 16 and conclude on April 20. The LOC can be submitted with a late fee between April 21 and April 22. Students are required to pay an examination fee of ₹320 per subject. For three subjects, the total fee payable will be ₹960. Additionally, a late fee of ₹2,000 will be applicable.
Important Points:
Students who wish to appear for the second Board examination—but whose names were not submitted in the LOC during the first phase—may now submit their names and deposit the requisite examination fees. Students whose names have already been submitted in the first phase may now deposit the examination fee.
Students who had previously submitted their names but do not wish to appear for the second examination may withdraw their names.
Students may also change their choice of Mathematics for the second board examination. Those who opted for 'Mathematics Standard' in the main examination (February-March) may choose 'Mathematics Basic' for the second examination. No changes of any kind are permitted in other selected subjects.
All students who have passed may seek to improve their performance in any three subjects—from among Science, Mathematics, Social Science, and Languages—in the second examination.
Students who have been placed in the 'ER' (Essential Repeat) category are not eligible to appear for the second examination.
If a student's name appears in the LOC (List of Candidates) and the fee has also been deposited, but the student fails to appear for the second examination, their performance in the Main Examination 2026 shall be considered final.
The second examination will be conducted based on the syllabus prescribed for the Main Examination 2026.
