CBSE Class 10 Science Exam: How to Score 90+ Marks with Smart Strategy
Scoring 90+ in Class 10 Science is achievable if you follow the right strategy. While students often focus on revising the syllabus and practicing numericals, senior CBSE teachers say the key lies in how you attempt the paper.
The exam tests knowledge, presentation, and strategy. Senior Science teacher Namita Mishra explains, “Many students know the answers but start with difficult questions, which increases stress and reduces marks. A calm and confident start can change the entire paper’s score.”
Smart Attempt Strategy
1. Don’t Start with Big Questions:
Avoid beginning with 5-mark or lengthy questions. Start with questions you are confident about, regardless of marks. This reduces stress and secures easy marks early.
2. Follow the Right Order:
-
1-mark questions: Direct definitions, processes, symbols, or identification questions. These take very little time and guarantee marks.
-
2–3 mark questions: Short explanations, simple calculations, or cause-effect questions. Skip confusing questions initially and return later.
-
5-mark questions: Attempt after completing smaller questions. By this time, your mind is calm, helping you structure answers well, especially for Physics numericals, Chemistry reactions, and Biology diagrams.
-
Case-based / competency-based questions: Save for the end. These require logical thinking and careful reading, which is easier once the rest of the paper is done.
Subject-wise Expert Tips
-
Physics: Always write formulas, show all steps, and include correct units.
-
Chemistry: Focus on balanced equations and correct terminology; lengthy explanations aren’t necessary.
-
Biology: Diagrams and clear labeling can make a big difference.
According to senior CBSE examiner Vineet Singh, examiners look for keywords, steps, and structure. Following this strategy can help students maximize marks efficiently.
