CBSE: CBSE issues new strict guidelines for practical exams of class 10th-12th, know details..
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued new guidelines and SOPs for practical exams, project work, and internal exams for Class 10 and 12 students for the 2025-26 academic year. The board has clearly stated that all schools must strictly adhere to the established rules. Evaluation must be completed within the deadline, correct marks must be uploaded, and no changes will be allowed. The new system aims to ensure transparent, fair, and timely evaluation, ensuring accurate results for students.
Strict deadlines and mark uploading rules
The board will conduct four exams this year, so there will be little scope for any delays. Schools must also ensure that marks are uploaded to ensure they do not exceed the maximum marks prescribed for a subject. Once uploaded, no changes will be made.
Special opportunities for athletes
If a student is participating in a national or international sports competition and their practical exam coincides with it, schools can reschedule the exam. However, this change will only be implemented within the overall timetable set by CBSE.
Special Rules for Class 10
There will be no external examiner for Class 10 practical exams. All evaluations will be conducted by internal examiners appointed within the school. The Board will also not provide answer sheets for Class 10 practical exams. Schools will have to print and manage the answer sheets themselves. After evaluation, these answer sheets will not need to be submitted to the CBSE regional office, but schools will have to maintain the records safely.
Class 12 Practical Exam Rules
There will be both internal and external examiners for Class 12. Experiments will be selected jointly by both examiners from the official syllabus. Examiners will avoid asking general or out-of-syllabus questions. Original and good projects will receive higher marks, while mediocre projects will receive average marks.
Mark Uploading Process
Marks for lab work, viva, projects, and the final practical exam will be recorded separately. Partial marks will not be uploaded; instead, they will be converted to the next full mark. It is mandatory to upload marks jointly from the same school on the day of the practical exam. The external examiner will be appointed by the CBSE. If the examiner is unavailable, the school must immediately inform the regional office.
The CBSE has clarified that only students whose names are registered in the LOC will be allowed to appear for the practical exam. Schools must also ensure that only genuine students appear for the exam.
