CBSE: If you or your child is studying under the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the entire approach to learning and examinations is about to undergo a complete transformation. Starting in 2026, CBSE is not merely altering the exam pattern; it is reshaping the entire educational framework. The objective is to alleviate student stress, eliminate the habit of rote learning, and provide students with skills-based education.

**Class 10 to Now Have Two Board Exams**
Effective from 2026, CBSE has implemented a system of two board examinations for Class 10 students. The first examination will be held between February and March, while the second will be conducted in May. Appearing for the second examination is not mandatory; it is intended for students who wish to improve their scores. The higher of the two scores obtained will be considered the final result.
If a student remains absent from three or more subjects during the first examination, they will not be permitted to appear for the second phase. Conversely, students who fail in a specific subject may take the second examination as a 'compartment' exam.

**Class 10 Results to be Released Sooner; Admissions to be Streamlined**

Under the new system, the results for the first phase of examinations may be released as early as April. This ensures that students will not have to endure a prolonged wait for admission into Class 11. Furthermore, the expedited release of results will accelerate the entire admission process.
**Digital Answer Sheet Evaluation to Enhance Transparency**

CBSE has initiated the on-screen or digital—evaluation of Class 12 answer sheets. This measure is expected to minimize the likelihood of errors during the evaluation process and facilitate the faster compilation of results. In the near future, the entire assessment process may transition to a fully digital format.

**Special Focus on Students' Mental Health**
Beginning in 2026, CBSE has also introduced psycho-social counseling services. The objective is to help students cope with and overcome the stress, anxiety, and pressure associated with examinations. Moving forward, equal emphasis will be placed on the mental well-being of students alongside their academic studies.

**Changes Aligned with the New Education Policy**
All these reforms are being implemented in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The primary focus of this policy is on fostering understanding rather than rote learning, while emphasizing creativity and skill development.

**Third Language Mandatory from Class 6**
CBSE has implemented a new language policy under which students will be required to study three languages starting from Class 6. At least two of these must be Indian languages. Gradually, this system is expected to be extended up to the Class 10 Board examinations.

**Promoting Skill and Vocational Education**
Skill education has now been made mandatory for classes 6 through 8. Furthermore, subjects such as skill education, arts, and physical education will also be compulsory in classes 9 and 10. In the future, Board examinations for skill-based subjects may also be introduced to better prepare students for employment opportunities.

**Increased Focus on AI and Technology**
CBSE has also incorporated Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Computational Thinking into its curriculum. This will provide students with exposure to new technologies and digital skills right from an early stage—knowledge that will prove invaluable in their future careers.

**Major Changes in the Examination Pattern**
Going forward, approximately 50% of the questions in Board examinations will be based on conceptual understanding and application. This implies that merely relying on rote learning to pass the exams will become difficult. Greater emphasis will be placed on case studies, situation-based scenarios, and practical questions.

**Complete Academic Records Accessible via DigiLocker and APAAR ID**
CBSE has introduced digital platforms such as DigiLocker and APAAR ID. These platforms will ensure that students' complete academic records are securely stored online. Consequently, processes related to admissions, result dissemination, and document verification will become significantly easier and faster.

**New Regulations Implemented for Teachers**
It has now been made mandatory for teachers to undergo training and qualify in the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET). This initiative aims to enhance the overall quality of education imparted in schools.
