CBSE held a webinar regarding the two Class 10 board exams, clarifying the rules, eligibility, and timelines for the main and improvement exams.

On November 20, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) held a webinar regarding the two Class 10 board exams. Principals, teachers, and board officials from schools across the country joined the webinar. CBSE clarified that both exams will be held in the same academic year and will apply the same academic standards. The goal is to provide students with both the main exam and the opportunity for improvement.

Principals asked questions regarding exam timing, conduct, staff availability, and internal assessment. CBSE officials answered all questions in simple language and explained that the new two-examination system will provide students with an opportunity to reduce stress and improve their performance.

Who can take the second board exam?

The second exam is optional. Only students who wish to improve their scores in a subject can appear. Appearance in the first exam is mandatory to qualify for the second exam. If a student is absent from the first exam, they cannot appear for the second exam. CBSE stated that only approximately 40% of students will appear for the second exam in any subject.

Which subjects will be eligible?

The second exam is only for subjects in which students wish to improve their scores. Students can only choose subjects in which their external assessment scores are higher than 50. Subjects with 50 or fewer marks are not eligible for the improvement exam.

LOC and Deadline

After the results of the first exam are declared, CBSE will issue the LOC for the second exam. Schools will have 15 days to verify students' information and submit it to the board. The board has clearly stated that no additional time will be granted.

Purpose of Two Board Exams

CBSE's two-examination system allows students to take the main exam and one improvement exam. This allows students to improve their performance without changing the structure of the entire academic year. The same academic standards will be followed in both exams.

When will the internal assessment be completed?

Internal assessment for Class 10 is mandatory to be completed between January 1 and February 14, 2026. Schools must submit all assessments on time to ensure smooth conduct of the examination and timely preparation of results.
