CBSE Board: You will have to pay this much fee for CBSE board exam, new fee applicable from this year, know who will get relief..

CBSE Board Exam: The Central Board of Secondary Education has recently taken a big step and announced an increase in the fees for board examinations. This change will be effective from the academic session 2025-26. This decision was taken in the 141st Governing Body meeting of CBSE held on 25 June 2025. In this, the board talked about meeting the expenses of operating costs and modern technical features by increasing the fee structure, which has been kept stable for the last 4-5 years.
CBSE Board has also made APAAR ID (Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry) mandatory for students from class 9 to 12 under One Nation, One Student ID. It is a 12-digit unique ID, which digitally integrates the academic profile of the students. This will help in data management, authenticity of records, and seamlessly connecting students to platforms like DigiLocker and Academic Bank of Credits (ABC).
How will the fees for the CBSE board exam increase?
The Central Board of Secondary Education has increased the fee by 6.66% in theory subjects and by about 10% in Nepal and other countries. You can understand the fee hike structure of the CBSE Board Exam 2026 here:
20 rupees have been increased per theory subject. Earlier, the board exam fee was Rs 300. Now, Rs 320 will have to be deposited.
If a student takes the exam of 5 subjects, then the total fee will have to be deposited of Rs 1,600. Earlier this fee was Rs 1500. This increase has increased the total fee marginally, which will not put an extra burden on the students or parents.
The fee for each practical subject has been increased from ₹ 150 to ₹ 160. This will especially affect the students of class 12. This increase has been made under the increase in necessary resources and lab operations.
The registration fee for class 9 and class 11 has been increased from ₹ 300 to ₹ 320. This increase covers the expenses incurred during the registration process.
What will be the benefit of Apaar ID?
APAAR ID is a digital identity. It has been made mandatory for all students in classes 9 to 12. Schools will have to ensure through the UDISE+ portal that students have this ID before the registration (class 9, 11) and the list of candidates (LoC - class 10, 12) is released. This new system will increase the accuracy of record data, reduce the problems of duplication of records, and increase the utility of education through platforms like DigiLocker and ABC. This initiative is in line with NEP 2020 and the Digital India vision.
These students will get exemption
The rules already set for SC / ST students of the Delhi government will still continue. The Delhi government charges Rs 240 per subject as examination fee from these students, which is later refunded.
