CBSE Board Exam 2026: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a circular regarding the second Class 10 board examination, scheduled to be held in May. This circular, issued by the Board to schools, outlines the procedure and guidelines for submitting the List of Candidates (LOC). According to the Board, the objective of the second Class 10 board examination in May 2026 is to provide students with an additional opportunity to improve their performance. Notably, students will be permitted to appear for improvement examinations in a maximum of three subjects only.

What is CBSE's 'Two Exams' Policy?
CBSE announced this policy on June 25, 2025. Under this policy, Class 10 students are required to first appear for the main examination (held in February-March). Subsequently, students who are dissatisfied with their marks can improve their results by appearing for the second board examination, scheduled to be held in May 2026.

Schedule for LOC Submission
CBSE has established a three-phase schedule for the submission of the LOC:

Phase 1: From March 18, 2026, to March 31, 2026
Phase 2: For a period of 5 days, commencing from the day immediately following the declaration of the main examination results
Phase 3 (with Late Fee): For a period of 2 days, commencing from the 7th day following the declaration of the results

The Board has clarified that the portal will remain open only until 11:59:59 PM on the final day. No further opportunities will be granted once the deadline has passed.

Which Students Are Eligible?

CBSE has also clarified the eligibility criteria for the second board examination, which are as follows:
The student must have appeared for the main examination.

The student must have appeared for examinations in at least 3 subjects.
Students who have passed the main examination may seek improvement in a maximum of 3 subjects.

Students placed in the 'Compartment' category are also eligible to appear.

However, students who did not appear for—or failed—in 3 or more subjects will not be eligible to appear for the second board examination. Such students will be required to appear for the main examination in February of the following year.

No Permission to Change Subjects
The Board has clarified that changing subjects will not be permitted during the second Board examination. Limited exceptions may be granted only in the case of Mathematics, in accordance with the established policy. Furthermore, no changes will be allowed to the student's data.

No Improvement in Internal Assessment
Another significant directive states that there will be no option to seek improvement in the Internal Assessment. As this is a year-long process, no modifications are permitted in this regard.

Fees and Payment Procedure
The CBSE has also prescribed the examination fees:
In India: ₹300 per subject (₹900 for three subjects)
Nepal: ₹1,100 per subject
Other Countries: ₹2,200 per subject

An additional late fee of ₹2,000 will be applicable. Fees must be submitted exclusively through online modes (Debit Card, Credit Card, UPI, Net Banking). Offline payments will not be accepted.
