CBSE: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has initiated the process of developing a new curriculum for Artificial Intelligence and Computational Thinking (AI & CT). For this purpose, the board has formed an expert committee chaired by Professor Karthik Raman of the Department of Data Science and AI at IIT Madras.

According to the Ministry of Education, this initiative will be implemented from Class 3 onwards from the 2026-27 session, helping students develop an understanding of artificial intelligence at an early stage.

School Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar stated that a stakeholder consultation meeting held on Wednesday, attended by CBSE, NCERT, KVS, NVS, and several external experts, developed comprehensive, inclusive, and forward-looking curriculum guidelines for AI and computational thinking.

Kumar said, "Artificial Intelligence and computational thinking will strengthen the concepts of learning, thinking, and teaching. This initiative is an important step towards the ethical use of AI and its deployment in the public interest."

He also stated that the curriculum will be aligned with the National Curriculum Framework for Education (NCF-SE), 2023, to recognize and nurture the unique potential of every child.

Revisions are necessary over time.
Previously, Sanjay Kumar stated that AI education should be viewed as a fundamental universal skill, like "The World Around Us."

He stated, "It is our responsibility to set minimum standards and revise them from time to time according to the needs of students."

Currently, over 18,000 CBSE schools are teaching AI as a skill subject from Class 6, consisting of a 15-hour module. It is offered as an optional subject from Classes 9 to 12.
