The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued an official statement regarding the controversy surrounding the Class 12 results and the On-Screen Marking (OSM) evaluation system. Defending the digital evaluation process, CBSE stated that the OSM system ensures transparency and fairness in marking. This clarification from CBSE comes in the wake of concerns raised on social media by students, parents, and teachers regarding unexpectedly low marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics. Some students even claimed that despite qualifying in competitive examinations like the JEE, they failed to pass the CBSE Board examinations.

In its official statement released via social media, CBSE clarified that the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system was introduced to make the evaluation process more transparent. According to the Board, this digital scrutiny process ensures that students are awarded marks correctly on a step-by-step basis, thereby minimizing the possibility of manual errors during evaluation.

Notably, the pass percentage for CBSE Class 12 examinations dropped to 85.2 percent this year—the lowest figure recorded in the last seven years. The Board's passing criteria explicitly state that to pass a subject, students must secure a minimum of 33 percent marks separately in both the theory and practical examinations.

**Scanned Copies of Answer Sheets Available from May 19**
CBSE has announced that the process for the re-evaluation of Class 12 results will commence on May 26. Students who feel that their marks are lower than expected must first apply for photocopies of their evaluated answer sheets; subsequently, after reviewing these photocopies, students may apply for the verification of marks or for re-evaluation. To obtain scanned copies of their evaluated answer sheets, students are required to pay a fee of ₹700 per subject. Applications for this service can be submitted between May 19 and May 22. Re-evaluation Process to Begin on May 26
The Board has instructed students to complete the process within the official deadline and pay the requisite application fee. The process for the verification or re-evaluation of answer scripts will commence on May 26 and continue until May 29. For the verification of answers, students are required to pay a fee of ₹500 per answer script, whereas for re-evaluation, the fee is ₹100 per question.

CBSE has also clarified that if any error is detected during the re-evaluation process, corrective action will be taken. According to CBSE examination regulations, if a student fails in a single subject, they may be eligible for a compartment examination, provided they fulfill the other passing criteria.
