If you are looking for a career after Class 12 that offers abundant job opportunities—spanning both government and private sectors—along with the future option of launching your own startup, then agriculture could prove to be an excellent choice. In today's changing landscape, agriculture is no longer confined to the fields; the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI), biotechnology, and modern technologies is opening up new career avenues.

Usma, Associate Dean at Galgotias University, explained that students from both PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) and PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) streams can build a bright future in this field by enrolling in a four-year course like B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture. She noted that agriculture has evolved beyond traditional farming to become a convergence of science, technology, and research.

**Hands-on Farming Experience**
She explained that during this four-year course, students are taught the fundamentals of agriculture, agronomy, biotechnology, soil science, crop production, and modern farming techniques. Furthermore, learning is not restricted to textbooks; students visit farms to interact with farmers and gain practical, real-world farming experience. This allows them to gain a close understanding of the challenges involved in farming and the modern solutions available to address them.

Usma mentioned that in the final stage of the course, students are sent for training to Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) and major agricultural institutions across the country. Students can choose institutions based on their interests, where they gain practical experience in modern farming techniques, research, and innovative cultivation methods. This training prepares them to meet industry requirements.

**Recognizing the Importance of Agriculture**
She highlighted that employment prospects in the agriculture sector are steadily rising. Fertilizer companies, seed companies, agri-tech startups, the food processing industry, and major agriculture-based corporations are consistently hiring trained youth. She emphasized that everyone needs food; as long as the need for food exists, the significance of farming and the agriculture sector will never diminish. **Careers as Lecturers and Researchers**
Regarding government jobs, opportunities exist for agriculture graduates as Agriculture Development Officers (ADOs), officials in various agricultural departments, roles in agricultural extension services, and other government positions. After completing an MSc or PhD, students can also build careers as lecturers and researchers in universities and colleges.

He noted that a large number of young people today are turning towards startups instead of traditional employment. Many students are launching ventures in vermicompost production, mushroom farming, organic farming, and other modern agriculture-based enterprises. After completing their studies, they are establishing their own businesses in their villages or towns and employing others.

**AI-Based Models Are Helping**
Commenting on the growing influence of Artificial Intelligence, Usama stated that AI is not eliminating jobs in agriculture; rather, it is becoming a powerful tool to assist farmers. He explained that climate change has made accurate weather forecasting increasingly difficult. AI-based models are proving highly beneficial to farmers in addressing challenges such as predicting rainfall timing and intensity, identifying potential crop diseases, and estimating production yields.

**Opportunities Abound for Startups**
He mentioned that students from agriculture and computer science backgrounds are collaborating to develop projects that make farming more profitable and scientifically driven. Thanks to these innovative projects, many students receive job offers from major companies even before completing their studies. In the coming years, agriculture will evolve beyond mere farming to become a major hub for technology, research, and innovation. Consequently, students entering this field will find excellent opportunities across the board—in employment, government service, research, and startups.
