It is often seen that many children choose the non-medical stream in class 11th, and some of them dream about studying at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT). To fulfill this dream, there are entry gates at many levels, which are very important to cross. Through these, any candidate can study at IIT. Let us know about all these exams in detail.

Entry at undergraduate level in IIT
JEE Advanced

JEE Advanced is the second stage for admission to IIT. Candidates must be among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates (including all categories) in the BE or BTech paper of JEE (Main). A candidate can attempt JEE (Advanced) a maximum of two times in two consecutive years. The rank list is prepared based on total marks in JEE (Advanced). Joint Entrance Examination (Main and Advanced) is for those students who want to apply for BTech, BS, Dual Degree, and IDP programs. Once a candidate clears JEE Advanced, he/she is eligible to get admission to IITs.

UCEED
Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED) is for BDS courses in IITs. Students who have passed class 12th (or equivalent) or are appearing in any stream can appear for UCEED. A student can appear a maximum of two times.

Entry at postgraduate level in IITs
GATE

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national-level examination that tests a comprehensive understanding of various graduate subjects in engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce, arts, and humanities. The exam for GATE 2025 will be held between February 1 and 16 and registration for the same has started.

JAM
Registration for the Joint Entrance Examination Masters (JAM) has started and will end on October 11. Through JAM, one can get admission to MSc and integrated PhD programs in various science and technology subjects offered by IITs, IISc, and other partner institutes.

CEED
The Common Entrance Exam for Design (CEED) is for students who wish to apply for courses like MDes, and PhD programmes in IITs. The marks obtained by the students in the exam are valid for one year.

The criteria and eligibility for PhD courses in IITs are different. Students are requested to check the official website to know in detail about the course, eligibility, and exam pattern.
