The West Bengal government has provided significant relief to candidates preparing for government jobs. The state government has decided to raise the maximum age limit for recruitment across various categories of services. According to a notification issued by the Finance Department, candidates applying for Group A, B, C, and D posts will now remain eligible for employment up to a higher age than previously allowed. The government states that this initiative will benefit young individuals who, for various reasons, were unable to apply within the stipulated timeframes. This new framework will be deemed effective from May 11, and its impact will be evident in upcoming recruitment drives.

According to the revised rules issued by the state government, the maximum age limit for Group A posts has now been raised to 41 years. Meanwhile, for recruitment into Group B services, the maximum age limit for candidates has been set at 44 years. The government has clarified that for posts where a higher age limit is already in force, the existing regulations will continue to apply.

**Relief for Group C and D Candidates as well**
The government has also introduced a major change regarding posts in the Group C and Group D categories. Candidates applying for these positions will now be eligible to participate in the recruitment process up to the age of 45. This is expected to benefit thousands of young individuals who have been preparing for government jobs for a considerable period.

**Rules to Apply to Non-PSC Recruitments as well**
The notification further states that these new age limits will also apply to recruitment processes conducted outside the purview of the West Bengal Public Service Commission (PSC). For appointments within the state's statutory bodies, government-owned companies, and local authorities, the maximum age limit has been fixed at 45 years.

**Major Government Decisions Following the Election**
The BJP secured a resounding victory in the 2026 Assembly elections in West Bengal. In the 294-member Legislative Assembly, the party won 206 seats to form the government.
