Board Exams 2026: CBSE has partially relaxed the APAAR ID (Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry) requirement for students appearing for the 2026 board exams. The board has said that schools will now be able to submit the List of Candidates (LoC) even if the APAAR ID is not generated, provided they use unique entries in such cases.

Apaar ID is a unique student identification number created under the government's 'One Nation, One Student ID' initiative. In line with the National Education Policy 2020, the system aims to provide lifelong academic identity to students. It aims to support seamless transfer to schools and higher education institutions, simplify the verification process at the time of admission and job, enable credit transfer, and analyze skill gaps for targeted development.

Difficulties in creating Apaar ID

Let us tell you that CBSE is encouraging schools to create an Apaar ID for each student. But there are still many obstacles in this process. Many schools have complained of problems integrating their systems, a mismatch between school and Aadhaar records, delays in updating or correcting information, and, in some cases, non-availability of parental consent. In view of these concerns, CBSE has temporarily allowed schools to submit LOC without Aadhaar ID under certain circumstances.

What to do if parents refuse?

If parents refuse to get the student's APAAR ID made, schools will have to file a copy of the refusal and enter 'REJECT' in the LOC. Where the delay is due to any technical or administrative reason other than consent, 'NOGEN' will have to be entered. In all other cases, schools are expected to provide APAAR ID as usual.

How to register for APAAR ID?

First, go to the DigiLocker website or download the DigiLocker app.

Now sign in with the mobile number linked to the student's Aadhaar.

Now open the Education Services section and select APAAR ID.

Enter the required student details as per the instructions given.

Provide parental consent digitally or submit the signed consent form to the school.

After verification, APAAR ID will be generated and linked to the student's academic profile.
