Chhath is a great festival of folk faith
Chhath Puja is one of the major festivals of Bihar, which is also called the Mahaparva of folk faith. Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiya are worshiped during Chhath Puja. Nahai Khay and Kharna are important parts of this festival. The sequence of Chhath Puja is something like this, Nahai Khay (first day), Kharna (second day), Sandhya Arghya (third day), Usha Arghya and Paran (fourth day).
Kharna has special significance in Chhath festival. On this day, women fasting make jaggery-rice kheer on a new earthen stove and offer it to Chhathi Maiya. After this, it is consumed as prasad. After Kharna, Nirjala fast starts from sunrise to sunset. This fast is one of the important parts of Chhath Puja, which is a symbol of devotion and reverence.
