Bihar Government Schemes: From Class 12 pass girls to UPSC aspirants, eligible beneficiaries can receive financial aid worth lakhs.
The Bihar government runs various scholarship and financial aid schemes for students. Here is a look at the schemes available and the financial assistance they offer.
The Bihar government implements several schemes providing financial aid for everything from school and college education to preparation for competitive exams. Notably, specific schemes have been designed for girls, students from Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST), Backward Classes (BC), Extremely Backward Classes (EBC), and minority communities.
Starting with girls, unmarried students who pass Class 12 receive a one-time financial grant under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Utthan Yojana. The aim is to encourage girls to pursue further education. Additionally, female students who complete their graduation from any recognized university in the state receive financial assistance ranging from ₹25,000 to ₹50,000 under the Mukhyamantri Balika (Graduation) Protsahan Yojana.
Avail the benefits of these schemes
If you belong to the SC, ST, BC, or EBC categories and are pursuing higher education after Class 10, you can avail the benefits of the Post-Matric Scholarship (PMS). Under this scheme, education-related expenses and other allowances are transferred directly to the students’ bank accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Furthermore, SC and ST students residing in the state’s Dr. Ambedkar Welfare Hostels receive monthly financial assistance of up to ₹2,000.
Student Credit Card Scheme
The Bihar Student Credit Card Scheme is highly beneficial for students concerned about the cost of higher education. Under this scheme, the government provides education loans of up to ₹4 lakh. The interest rate is 4 percent for general category students, whereas female students and students with disabilities can avail of this facility at a simple interest rate of just 1 percent.
Assistance for others too
The Bihar government is also extending support to students preparing for competitive examinations. Under the ‘Chief Minister’s Civil Services Incentive Scheme for the Extremely Backward Classes (EBC)’, candidates belonging to the EBC category who successfully clear the preliminary stages of competitive examinations—such as UPSC, BPSC, NDA, CDS, and banking exams—are provided with a one-time financial assistance ranging from ₹30,000 to ₹1 lakh.
The government has also launched specific schemes for students belonging to minority communities. Under the ‘Chief Minister’s Student Incentive Scheme’, minority students who pass the matriculation examination in the first division receive an incentive amount of ₹10,000. Additionally, students residing in recognized minority hostels receive monthly financial assistance under the ‘Minority Hostel Grant Scheme’.
