There's good news for B.Ed. Degree holders in Uttar Pradesh. The state government has taken a significant decision in their favor. The state's education department has approved the Professional Development Program for Elementary Teachers (PDPET) course for B.Ed. Degree holders. After completing this bridge course, B.Ed. Degree holders will receive recognition equivalent to a B.T.C., making them eligible to teach students in primary classes, grades 1 through 5.

The Supreme Court had declared the B.Ed. Degree invalid for primary classes.
In fact, the Supreme Court issued a significant ruling last year. In this ruling, the Supreme Court declared the B.Ed. Degree invalid for teaching children in primary classes, grades 1 through 5. The Supreme Court clarified that B.Ed. Degree holders would not be able to teach in primary classes, grades 1 through 5. Only those with a B.T.C.-D.El.Ed. A degree would make one eligible to teach in primary classes. This made a large number of B.Ed. Degree holders are ineligible to teach primary classes.

NIOS may conduct the 6-month bridge course PDPET.
Publicly, PDEPT is a 6-month bridge course. This course is conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). This bridge course was developed in compliance with the Supreme Court's directives, which primarily educate candidates with B.Ed. Degrees about teaching methods in primary classes, and has been approved by the Uttar Pradesh government. This means that candidates with B.Ed. degrees pursuing this bridge course in Uttar Pradesh will be eligible to teach primary school children.

Application Process Starting November 1st
NIOS is conducting the application process for the 6-month bridge course PDEPT. Applications for admission to the next session can be submitted starting November 1st. Applications can be made by visiting the official NIOS website, dledbr.nios.ac.in. Notably, this 6-month bridge course is available online. After enrolling in the course, the training will run from December 2025 to May 2026.
