BAMS Admission 2026: Sanskrit Students Can Now Become Ayurvedic Doctors; Direct Path to BAMS After Class 10
The Central Sanskrit University has opened a new pathway to becoming an Ayurvedic doctor after Class 10. Students can enroll in a 7.5-year integrated BAMS course by qualifying for the NEET-PA entrance exam.

The Central Sanskrit University (CSU) has announced the Pre-Ayurveda (NEET-PA) entrance examination for the 2026-27 academic session. Through this exam, students can begin their journey toward becoming Ayurvedic doctors.
Opportunity for BAMS Admission After Class 10
The Central Sanskrit University has launched a new integrated Pre-Ayurveda program for Sanskrit students. To gain admission to this course, students must take the NEET-PA entrance exam. Upon qualifying, students will study at an Ayurveda Gurukul and eventually earn a BAMS degree.
Course Duration: 7.5 Years
The entire course spans a total of 7.5 years. It begins with two years of study at the Pre-Ayurveda Gurukul, followed by the 4.5-year BAMS course. Finally, a mandatory one-year internship must be completed. After this, students can launch their careers as Ayurvedic doctors.
Eligibility to Apply
Students who have passed Class 10 from a recognized board, a state Sanskrit board, or an equivalent board are eligible to apply for this entrance exam. General category students must have secured at least 50% marks, while a minimum of 40% marks is required for candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC, and differently-abled categories.
Age Limit
Applicants must be between 15 and 25 years of age as of December 31, 2026. The university has clarified that no age relaxation will be granted to candidates from any category.
When will applications open?
According to the university, the online application process will begin in the third week of July 2026. The entrance examination will be conducted in the last week of August or the first week of September at designated centers across the country.
How will the entrance exam be conducted?
The NEET-PA exam will be conducted offline using OMR sheets. The duration of the exam will be two and a half hours (150 minutes). It will consist of a total of 120 multiple-choice questions. One mark will be awarded for each correct answer, and there will be no negative marking for incorrect answers. The exam will be conducted in three languages: Sanskrit, Hindi, and English.
What does the syllabus cover?
The university has also released the exam syllabus. It includes subjects related to Sanskrit literature, grammar, philosophy, Puranas, history, and the Indian Knowledge System (IKS). Questions will be based on these subjects.
Approval from NCISM
This entire program is recognized by the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM). Earlier this year, the Central Sanskrit University and NCISM launched a special portal to integrate Ayurveda Gurukuls. Now, with the announcement of the entrance exam, this new system is being implemented.
