Applications Open for IIT Mandi Director Post; Here Are the Required Qualifications

The Ministry of Education has invited applications for the position of Director at IIT Mandi. Eligible candidates must apply using the prescribed format.

The Ministry of Education has invited applications for the appointment of a Director at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi. Eligible candidates are required to submit their applications in the prescribed format. Applications must be sent via both post and email. According to the Ministry, the appointment will be made based on the recommendations of a Search-cum-Selection Committee, which will consider applications and nominations received in response to the advertisement. It is worth noting that IIT Mandi is an institute fully funded by the Ministry of Education, Government of India; consequently, the appointment of the Director will be made by the Ministry.

What qualifications are required for the IIT Mandi Director post?

Candidates for the Director position must possess strong academic and administrative experience in the relevant field. Applicants are required to hold a PhD degree and must have secured a ‘First Class’ qualification in their preceding degree. Preference will be given to candidates with a PhD in an engineering discipline; however, candidates holding degrees in Science, Mathematics, or Management may also be considered. Additionally, candidates must have at least 10 years of experience as a Professor at a reputed university.

Administrative experience is also essential

Academic qualifications alone are not sufficient for the Director post; candidates must also possess at least five years of administrative experience and leadership capabilities. Regarding age, it is preferred that the candidate be under 60 years of age as of the application deadline. The selected candidate will receive a revised monthly salary of ₹2,25,000, along with other allowances as per the rules.

Information to be provided in the application

Applicants must submit their resume in the prescribed format. The resume must clearly detail the candidate’s achievements in research, teaching, industry, academia/collaborations, and administration. Along with this, candidates must submit a two-page justification supporting their candidature and a two-page vision statement for the institute. The application must also include contact details for at least two eminent individuals who are well-acquainted with the candidate’s work.

Applications to be submitted by October 31

Applications prepared in the prescribed format, along with the necessary documents, must be sent to the Ministry of Education via Registered Post or Speed ​​Post. The application must reach the Ministry by October 31, 2026. Candidates currently employed in government departments, autonomous institutions, or public sector undertakings must submit their applications through the proper channel; additionally, an advance copy of the application should be sent to the designated address. The envelope containing the application must bear the inscription “Application for the Post of Director, IIT Mandi” in bold letters. A copy of the application must also be submitted electronically in MS Word format to the email address iits@gmail.com.

Incumbent Director’s tenure ends in December

It is worth noting that Laxmidhar Behera currently holds the position of Director at IIT Mandi. His tenure is set to conclude in December 2026. In view of this, the Ministry of Education has invited applications for the position of the new Director.
