Flood Relief Assistance: Amidst the damage caused by recent floods in Assam, the state government has taken a significant step to provide financial aid to affected families. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has released the first installment of financial assistance to provide relief to families whose homes suffered severe damage due to the floods. The primary objective of this aid is to provide financial support to those whose homes were badly affected by the deluge.

Which families are receiving the relief amount?

Financial assistance is being provided to families whose homes sustained severe damage during the floods.
In the first phase, approximately 75,000 families have benefited from this assistance.
Each family is receiving ₹15,000 as the first installment.
Families from the Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, and Golaghat districts, in particular, have been included under this scheme.

How many people are affected by the floods?

The number of people affected by the floods in Assam currently stands at around 1.36 lakh. The most severely affected districts include Sivasagar, Charaideo, Dhemaji, Golaghat, and Jorhat.

Sivasagar: 55,000 people
Charaideo: 40,000 people
Jorhat: 22,000 people
Golaghat and Dhemaji districts are also among the affected areas.

Severe damage to agriculture as well

More than 15,400 hectares of farmland have been submerged in floodwaters.
Crops in several areas have been affected, causing significant losses for farmers.
According to reports, the Dhansiri River in Golaghat district is still flowing above the danger mark. In this situation, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is visiting the affected areas. Along with this, he is overseeing relief operations and meeting people to listen to their grievances.
