The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has launched four new schemes under its Institution Development Cell for the 2026-27 academic session. These schemes aim to provide academic guidance to technical institutions.

AICTE New Schemes 2026-27: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has taken a significant step toward strengthening the infrastructure of engineering and technical education institutions across the country, while also fostering research and innovation. For the 2026-27 academic session, the AICTE has introduced four new schemes under its Institution Development Cell. These schemes were unveiled on October 31, 2026, in New Delhi by AICTE Chairman Prof. Yogesh Singh, in the presence of Member Secretary Prof. Shyama Rath. The core goals of these initiatives include improving laboratory facilities, modernizing infrastructure, providing financial support for research activities, and offering academic guidance to technical institutions nationwide.

The Four New AICTE Schemes

IDEA Lab Scheme

The primary objective of the IDEA Lab scheme is to move beyond purely textbook-based learning by promoting a "learning-by-doing" approach. Through this initiative, students can apply principles from science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in a practical setting. This will enable students to experiment with new ideas, develop prototypes, and devise practical solutions to real-world problems. The scheme will also help foster interactive teaching methodologies within technical institutions.

MODROBS Scheme

Under this scheme, institutions will receive support to upgrade their existing infrastructure. The objective of this scheme is to ensure that students and faculty members have access to facilities that support their research activities, teaching, and practical training. Through this scheme, institutions can enhance the quality of practical education.

Margdarshan Scheme

This scheme focuses on strengthening colleges through academic monitoring. Under this initiative, established institutions—including centrally funded ones—will provide guidance to other colleges. The scheme is expected to help institutions improve their academic practices, share resources, and enhance their overall capabilities.

Conference Grant Scheme

The Conference Grant Scheme aims to support institutions in organizing national and international academic conferences. Such events provide a platform for academic researchers and subject experts to share knowledge, explore research funding opportunities, and discuss new developments across various fields. Through these four schemes, the AICTE intends to improve access to institutional support and encourage greater participation from technical education institutions across India.

Focus on Research and Institutional Capability

During the launch, AICTE Chairman Prof. Yogesh Singh emphasized the importance of fostering a research-oriented and innovation-driven academic environment. He also highlighted the integration of emerging technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence, into the teaching and learning process. AICTE Member Secretary Prof. Shyama encouraged institutions to apply for these schemes, leverage the available support to strengthen their institutional capabilities, and improve student learning outcomes.
