AICTE Dual Degree Programs New Rules: There's big news for students pursuing or planning to pursue BCA-MCA and BBA-MBA. The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has taken a major step regarding the degrees offered by these courses. The council has issued new eligibility standards for BCA-MCA and BBA-MBA integrated (dual degree) programs. These rules will be implemented from the 2026-27 academic session. Let's find out what the new rule is...
What's the New Rule?
AICTE has set the duration for these integrated courses at five years. However, many universities and education experts are demanding that it be completed in four years to save time and make their studies more attractive and accessible.
Eligibility for the BCA-MCA Integrated Program
For admission to the five-year BCA-MCA course, a 12th-grade pass is required. Additionally, students who have studied math, statistics, or accounting must achieve a minimum of 45 percent. This threshold is set at 40 percent for students from reserved categories. If a student has a different educational background, such as studying physics, engineering, or other subjects, the university will offer bridge courses. This will allow them to more easily transition into the main program.
Eligibility for the BBA-MBA Integrated Program
Entry into the five-year BBA-MBA program also requires a 12th-grade pass. Furthermore, students must adhere to the university's admission policy. This new rule aims to provide students with a uniform educational level and a better learning experience.
What Experts Say
Many education experts say that currently, the BBA is three years long and the MBA two years long. Therefore, if the integrated program is five years long, students may lose interest in the program. Many experts have recommended extending it to four years.
What benefits will students receive?
Students will have the opportunity to complete two degrees simultaneously.
Both time and money will be saved.
With the bridge course facility, even students from different backgrounds will be able to adjust easily.
Education quality and equal academic standards will be ensured.
