Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools will now be used to detect the threat of landslides and identify high-risk zones in hilly regions. IIT Delhi will develop an AI tool for this purpose, which will assist in mapping landslide-prone areas and assessing the associated risks.

This will enable the administration and disaster management agencies to prepare in advance and mitigate potential damage. The platform will be established and operated at the institute under a project funded by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

IIT Delhi has invited proposals from industries and startups for the design and development of this tool, issuing an 'Expression of Interest' (EoI) for the same. IIT Delhi will serve as the lead institution and principal investigator, while the selected industry partner or startup will act as a co-principal investigator, contributing to the development and implementation of the technology.

**Development of Maps and Dashboards**
The platform will integrate data from various sources and AI models, presenting it through interactive maps and dashboards. Users will be able to access information on high-risk zones and generate reports as needed. Additionally, the tool will feature a mechanism to monitor the data analysis process, ensuring a systematic workflow and facilitating a clearer understanding of the outcomes.

**Assistance in Disaster Management**
The risk of landslides depends on several factors, including mountain slope gradients, soil composition, and the geographical characteristics of the region. By analyzing data related to these factors, the proposed tool will help identify areas with a high susceptibility to landslides. This will assist the administration in determining where to increase surveillance, issue alerts, and implement rescue measures. Furthermore, having information about high-risk areas will streamline the planning of relief and rescue operations.
