The first batch of Agniveers recruited under the Agnipath scheme will complete its four-year service in January 2027. This batch comprises over 19,000 Agniveers. Under existing rules, 25 percent of Agniveers from each batch are inducted into the Army's regular cadre. The new system plans to finalize their merit list before their service tenure ends. Provisions for reservation have been made for former Agniveers in forces such as the BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, and Assam Rifles. Similarly, provisions for reservation or priority in hiring exist for former Agniveers within the Railways and various other government departments.
