Agniveer Retirement Benefits: The journey of the youth who joined the country's armed forces under the Agnipath scheme has reached a new turning point. When this scheme was announced four years ago, it sparked widespread discussion and debate across the nation. The first batch of Agniveers from the Indian Navy is set to complete its four-year tenure and leave the service on November 21, 2026. Alongside this historic moment, the nation is keenly watching to see what the future holds for these young individuals returning from the armed forces.

After four years, approximately 75 percent of Agniveers will be discharged from service, while the top-performing 25 percent will be absorbed into the armed forces permanently. All three branches of the military are considering increasing this retention rate, and preparations are underway to submit a new proposal to the government in this regard. Young individuals returning to civilian life after their four-year tenure have several questions about their future. Here is a look at the concrete measures the government has put in place to ensure their rehabilitation and secure their future.

Benefits Agniveers Will Receive Upon Completion of Service
Upon completing their four-year tenure, Agniveers will receive various financial benefits from the government:

Seva Nidhi Package: Every retiring Agniveer will receive a lump-sum 'Seva Nidhi' package of approximately ₹10.04 lakh. This amount will be tax-free. It comprises the individual's own contribution, a matching contribution from the government, and the accrued interest.

Life Insurance Cover: Agniveers are provided with an insurance cover of ₹48 lakh during their service period. This serves as a significant safety net for them and their families.

Skill Certificate: Retiring Agniveers are awarded a skill certificate. This will give them an advantage during interviews for future private or government jobs. However, they will not be entitled to gratuity, pension, or lifelong medical and canteen facilities. Government's Plan to Re-employ Ex-Agniveers

The government and various ministries are working to ensure that the youth who served the nation for four years do not remain unemployed.

Several major decisions have been taken to secure their future:

Ministry of Home Affairs' New Portal: The Ministry of Home Affairs is developing a special portal to facilitate the smooth absorption of ex-Agniveers into the corporate and government sectors. This will provide them with a wide range of job options.

50% Reservation in Paramilitary Forces (CAPF): 50% of the seats for Constable (General Duty) and Rifleman posts in security forces such as the BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, and Assam Rifles have been reserved for ex-Agniveers. A new category designated as 'Ex-Agniveer' has also been created for them.

Exemption from Physical and Written Tests: Ex-Agniveers will be exempted from the Physical Standard Test (PST), Physical Efficiency Test (PET), and written examinations during recruitment for these security forces.

State Government Quotas and Age Relaxation: Governments of several states—including Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh—have reserved 10% to 20% of posts in police and other departments for ex-Agniveers. Additionally, age relaxations ranging from 3 to 5 years have been announced to help these young individuals easily secure government jobs.
