The third evaluation test of the first batch of Agniveers in the Indian Army is going on these days. These Agniveers, recruited in January 2023, are now in the third phase of their four years of service. According to sources, the army has clearly said that complete transparency and fairness will be maintained in this process so that only the most qualified soldiers can get a place in permanent recruitment.

Four exams in four years

Under the Agneepath scheme, Agniveers have to take tests at different levels four times in four years of service. The first test is held at their regimental center 31 weeks after recruitment. The second test is held in their unit after 18 months, the third test in 30 months and the fourth and final test in 42 months i.e. six months before leaving the unit. According to army sources, this system has been kept so that there is no bias of any kind. The special thing is that the unit in which the Agniveer is posted does not evaluate him. This maintains transparency.

Many opportunities, fair tests
The evaluation includes tests like drills, physical tests, and firing. In every test, Agniveers are given three chances, and only the best score out of them is recorded in the final data. In the remaining stages, they get two chances and there too only the best score is counted. The soldiers can also check their mark sheets themselves. Soldiers posted in remote and high-altitude areas like Siachen and Ladakh are given the facility of test by attaching them to the nearest Corps Battle School or Rear Unit.

A permanent place for those who receive gallantry awards

In this scheme, bravery and sports talent have also been given full respect. If any Agniveer gets the Army Medal or a bigger award like Ashok Chakra, Kirti Chakra or Shaurya Chakra, then he is guaranteed a permanent recruitment. Those who get 'Mention in Dispatches' will be given 25 extra marks.

This scheme is also beneficial for players. If any Agniveer represents India at the international level, he will get direct permanent recruitment. 10 extra marks will be given for participating in a national level competition and 6 extra marks will be given to those playing at the services level.

Final medical test and merit list
The first Agniveer batch will leave the unit in January 2027, but before that, by October 2026, the marks of all the tests will be recorded in the final datasheet. After four years of service, all the Agniveers will have a medical test once again. The 25 percent who will be selected will be informed within 7 days of leaving the unit. Then they will have to report to the regimental center in 30 days. If someone does not reach on the stipulated date, he will be considered 'rejected' and the next candidate from the merit list will get a chance in his place.

No pension, but 15 years of a permanent job
Before the implementation of the Agneepath scheme, soldiers were recruited for at least 15 years and got a pension on completion of service, but Agniveers will not be given a pension. The 25 percent who will be selected will serve in the army for at least 15 years or more. Permanent recruitment will be done according to arm, service and trade and a separate merit list will be prepared for each trade.
