Agniveer Retirement Benefits: The service tenure of the first batch of the Agniveer scheme, launched by the Central Government in 2022, is set to conclude in October 2026. Under this scheme, youths aged 17.5 to 21 years (with a relaxation up to 23 years for the first batch) are recruited into the Navy, Air Force, and Army for a four-year term. Let us look at the salary Agniveers receive during their four-year service and the financial benefits and facilities provided after the tenure ends...

Agniveer 4-Year Salary Structure
First Year

In the first year, the monthly salary is ₹30,000. From this, 30% (₹9,000) is deducted and transferred to the Agniveer Corpus Fund, resulting in an in-hand salary of ₹21,000. Notably, the Government of India contributes an amount equal to the deduction made from the Agniveer's salary into the Corpus Fund.

Second Year

In the second year, the salary rises to ₹33,000; the in-hand salary is ₹23,100, while ₹9,000 goes into the Corpus Fund, with the government contributing an equal amount to the fund.

Third Year

In the third year, the salary becomes ₹36,500. The in-hand salary is ₹25,550. From this, ₹10,950 is transferred to the Corpus Fund, and the government contributes an equal amount to the fund.

Fourth Year

In the final (fourth) year of service, the salary becomes ₹40,000. The in-hand salary is ₹28,000. ₹12,000 is transferred to the Agniveer Corpus Fund, and the government contributes an equal amount to that account.

**Salary and Benefits Upon Completion of Service**
Upon completion of service, a lump-sum 'Seva Nidhi' package ranging from ₹10.04 lakh to ₹11.71 lakh is provided; this amount is entirely tax-free. This package comprises the 30% contribution deducted from the Agniveer's salary along with a matching contribution from the government.

Agniveers receive a skill certificate and an experience letter—equivalent to Class 12 certification—which aids in securing future employment. The government also provides health insurance coverage of ₹48 lakh.

Additionally, 10% of vacancies are reserved in forces such as the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and the Assam Rifles. Several state governments have also announced plans to grant priority to Agniveers in police recruitment.

Furthermore, Agniveers who complete their four-year tenure are granted age-limit relaxations for other government jobs, making it easier for them to apply.

**Potential Good News for Agniveers**
There is welcome news for Agniveers. According to media reports, the central government is considering offering permanent employment to a larger number of Agniveers from the first batch upon completion of their four-year term. Currently, the rule allows for the permanent absorption of only 25% of Agniveers; however, all three armed forces have now requested an increase in this quota. The Navy has proposed retaining 75% of Agniveers permanently, while the Army and Air Force have suggested retaining 50%. An official announcement from the government regarding this is still awaited.
