Agniveer: The Indian Army introduced the Agnipath scheme in June 2022, making significant changes to its recruitment process. Under this scheme, young people are recruited into the army for a short term of four years; they are called Agniveers. The first batch of Agniveers was recruited in 2022. The first batch of Agniveers will retire in 2026.  Subsequent batches of Agniveers will also retire thereafter. While there is a provision to regularize 25 percent of the Agniveers into the army, the remaining 75 percent will return to mainstream society.

Arrangements have been made at various levels to give these 75 percent of Agniveers priority in government jobs, but many people are wondering what kind of certificate they will receive after retirement, which will allow them to avail themselves of various reservations in other government jobs. Many also want to know whether Agniveers will be considered ex-servicemen after retirement.

Let's discuss this in detail. We will find out what certificate Agniveers will receive after retirement. We will also find out whether Agniveers will be called ex-servicemen after retirement.

What certificate will Agniveers receive after retirement?
75 percent of the Agniveers recruited under the Agnipath scheme will retire after four years of service. According to the guidelines issued by the Indian Army, 75 percent of retiring Agniveers will receive an Agniveer Skill Certificate. This certificate, given to Agniveers at the time of retirement, will be a detailed skill-set certificate highlighting the skills and competency levels acquired during their service as Agniveers. Based on this certificate, Agniveers will be able to apply for other government services and avail themselves of the benefit of priority.

Will Agniveers be considered ex-servicemen? Find out if they will receive CDS and medical facilities.
The same respect and facilities that are given to serving soldiers in the Indian Army are also given to retired soldiers, i.e., ex-servicemen. The main benefits available to retired soldiers include the Canteen Stores Department (CSD) and medical facilities. The CSD provides discounted goods, while the medical service offers free medical treatment for life to the soldier and their dependents. The question now is whether Agniveers will be considered ex-servicemen after retirement and whether they will receive the benefits of the CSD and medical facilities.

According to the guidelines issued by the Indian Army, Agniveers recruited under the Agnipath scheme will not be considered ex-servicemen after retirement. Furthermore, the medical and CSD facilities available during their service as Agniveers will not be extended to them after retirement.
