Agniveer: A major announcement will be made for Agniveers before their retirement! The government plans to adjust them into paramilitary forces..
Agniveer Adjustment: The first batch of Agniveers is set to retire at the end of this year. The Agnipath scheme was launched in 2022, under which young people are recruited into the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force for a period of four years. After four years of service, there is a provision to retain 25 percent of the Agniveers permanently and retire the remaining 75 percent. Therefore, a policy for adjusting the retiring Agniveers has been in the works for some time. Under this policy, several states have reserved seats in their departments to re-employ the retired Agniveers, and the Ministry of Home Affairs has also reserved a 50 percent quota for Agniveers in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF). However, the Ministry of Home Affairs is working on a comprehensive policy to adjust the retiring Agniveers. It is believed that the policy for adjusting the Agniveers will likely be announced before the first batch retires.
Let's find out how many Agniveers will be retiring in the first batch. Where and how will they be adjusted after their retirement? We will also learn about the plan the Ministry of Home Affairs is working on for this purpose.
46,000 Agniveers to Retire
The Ministry of Defence launched the Agnipath scheme in June 2022, under which young people are recruited into the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force for four years. The first Agniveer recruitment under the scheme was held in September, in which more than 60,000 personnel were recruited into the Indian Air Force, Army, and Navy. It is believed that 75 percent of these, i.e., approximately 46,000 Agniveers, will retire at the end of this year after completing their four years of service, and they will not receive gratuity or pension.
Internal Committee Being Formed for Agniveer Adjustment Plan
The Ministry of Home Affairs has started preparations to formulate a concrete plan to adjust the Agniveers before their retirement. According to a report in the English newspaper The Telegraph, the Ministry of Home Affairs wants to adjust the retiring Agniveers in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF). Preparations have begun, with the Ministry of Home Affairs instructing senior CAPF (Central Armed Police Forces) officers to prepare a plan for this. In this regard, an internal committee of senior CAPF officers has been directed to explore options for integrating Agniveers into the paramilitary forces.
Policy decision likely soon
The decision regarding the integration of retiring Agniveers will be taken by the central government. It is expected that the internal committee will submit its report to the Ministry of Home Affairs soon, after which the government may take a policy decision on the matter. There is a possibility that a decision will be made before the first batch of Agniveers retires.
Indications given earlier
In fact, indications in this regard have emerged previously. In January, CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) Director General Praveer Ranjan had stated that Agniveers retiring from the Navy could be deployed for security at ports under the CISF.
