Agnipath Scheme: 75% of Agniveer soldiers to get a 2-year service extension; tenure will now be 6 years..
There is significant news for soldiers serving as 'Agniveers' in the Indian Armed Forces. India's current Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General N. S. Raja Subramani, has announced a two-year extension for Agniveers. Consequently, their tenure will now be six years instead of four. This decision has been approved by the Cabinet.
A Diwali gift for Agniveers
Discussions regarding this had been underway for some time. Following Cabinet approval, Agniveers have received this service extension as a gift ahead of Diwali. It is worth noting that the government had previously announced that 25 percent of Agniveers would be granted permanent status.
75% of soldiers to receive an extension
According to the announcement made by the CDS, 75 percent of the soldiers serving as Agniveers will receive a two-year extension. The remaining 25 percent—those with a lower performance profile—will not be granted an extension.
First batches were set to retire starting in November
The first batch of Indian Navy Agniveers was scheduled to complete their service on November 21, followed by the first batch of Indian Air Force Agniveers on December 21, and the first batch of Indian Army Agniveers on December 31. Now, 75 percent of these soldiers will have the opportunity to continue their service for an additional two years.
