After NEET, a Re-exam for UGC-NET Too: What Is the Full Story?
Following the NEET issue, a re-examination for UGC-NET is now set to take place. However, this re-exam will not be held nationwide; it is specifically for candidates who were assigned to a particular exam center in Jalandhar, Punjab.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued an important notification regarding the UGC-NET June 2026 examination. The NTA has decided to conduct a re-exam for candidates who were affected by technical issues at the 'CT Group of Institutions' exam center in Jalandhar, Punjab.
According to reports, the technical glitch occurred during the first shift (Shift-I) of the UGC-NET exam held on June 22, 2026. Consequently, some candidates could not start the exam on time, while others were unable to complete it. Keeping the candidates' interests in mind, the NTA has decided to hold a re-examination for those affected.
Which students will get this opportunity?
Only those candidates who arrived to take the exam at the CT Group of Institutions center on June 22—but could not start the exam or had their exam disrupted midway due to technical faults—will be eligible to participate in the re-exam.
When will the re-exam take place?
According to the NTA, the UGC-NET re-exam will be held on July 5, 2026, at 3:00 PM. The exam will take place at the same center where the technical issue occurred.
What is the UGC-NET exam?
The UGC-NET exam is conducted for Junior Research Fellowship, Assistant Professorship, and PhD admissions. It is a national-level examination. The exam is being conducted from June 22, 2026, to June 30, 2026. To appear for the exam, candidates must have secured at least 55% marks in their Master's degree, while reserved category candidates are granted a 5% relaxation.
New admit cards to be issued.
New admit cards will be issued for the eligible candidates appearing in the re-examination. These cards will contain details regarding the exam date, time, reporting time, and necessary instructions. The NTA has advised students to regularly check the official website for the admit card and other important updates.
Has the exam been cancelled across the country?
The NTA has clarified that the UGC-NET June 2026 exam has not been cancelled nationwide. The technical issue was limited to a single center in Jalandhar; therefore, the re-examination is being conducted only for the affected candidates from that specific center.
