Did you know that there are certain medical colleges in India where the tuition fees are even lower than those of regular schools? Let’s explore them.

For young people in India, pursuing an MBBS degree is a cherished dream, and parents constantly encourage their children to enter this field. This year, approximately 2.3 million applications were submitted for the NEET exam. Students aspire to clear this examination to secure a seat in the best possible college; however, the exorbitant tuition fees charged by these institutions often cause significant distress to both students and their parents.

Why Do Students Go Abroad?

Often, despite achieving excellent scores, students are unable to become doctors simply because they lack the financial capacity to pay tuition fees amounting to hundreds of thousands of rupees. Consequently, many students turn their gaze toward foreign countries, where they find opportunities to pursue medical studies at a much lower cost.

However, you might be surprised to learn that there are indeed states within India where you can complete your MBBS education at a remarkably low cost. Let us explore these states and medical colleges where the MBBS tuition fees are exceptionally affordable.

Delhi Hosts India’s Most Affordable Medical College

The Delhi-based AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) is the country’s most prestigious medical institution. Its tuition fees are so low that even a student from a middle-class or lower-middle-class background can afford to study there. At AIIMS Delhi, the total tuition fee for the entire five-year program is merely ₹19,896—amounting to approximately ₹4,000 per year. However, securing admission to this institution requires scoring 710 marks out of a possible 720 in the entrance examination.

Government Medical College Fees Are Also Extremely Low in Telangana

In Telangana, several government institutions—such as Gandhi Medical College, Kakatiya Medical College, Osmania Medical College, and Siddipet Medical College—charge an annual tuition fee of only around ₹10,000. To secure admission to these colleges, students are required to score a minimum of 650 marks in the entrance examination.

Other States Where Fees Are Low

In addition to Telangana and Delhi, states such as Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam, and Andhra Pradesh also offer medical education in government colleges at a significantly lower cost. Here too, the annual fee ranges between ₹10,000 and ₹20,000. However, even here, students must secure a score of around 600 to gain admission.

While the number of colleges in India has certainly increased, students will still have to work extremely hard to pursue an MBBS degree at an affordable cost.
