Admission Rules for MBBS/BDS in Ladakh Revised; Merit to be Based on NEET Rank

Following the creation of seven new districts in Ladakh, the administration has amended the existing system for Central Pool medical seats. The new guidelines have received approval from Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena.

The Ladakh administration has revised the admission rules for MBBS and BDS seats under the Central Pool. Merit lists will no longer be prepared based on separate categories or roster systems. Under the new rules, a single merit list comprising all eligible candidates will be created, and admissions will be conducted based on NEET ranks. The administration modified the existing arrangement for Central Pool medical seats following the formation of seven new districts in Ladakh. The new guidelines, issued by the Department of Health and Medical Education, have been approved by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena.

The system implemented in 2021 for Central Pool seats in Ladakh categorized candidates into various groups. These included reserved and unreserved categories, as well as distinctions based on district (Leh vs. Kargil), gender (male vs. female), and other specified classifications. The new system has abolished these separate categories and the roster-based approach. Merit will no longer be determined by a candidate's district, gender, or reservation status; instead, all eligible candidates will be included in a single, unified merit list.

College Allocation Based on NEET Rank and Preference

Under the new guidelines, admission to Central Pool MBBS and BDS seats will be determined by NEET merit, rank, and the preferences submitted by the candidates. This means that seat allocation will take into account both the candidate's NEET rank and the college choices selected during the application process. This new merit-based procedure will apply to the limited number of seats available under the Central Pool. 

Ladakh allocated 9 medical seats for 2026-27

The Centre has allocated a total of 9 medical seats to Ladakh under the central pool for the 2026-27 academic session. These include 7 MBBS seats and 2 BDS seats. Regarding the 7 MBBS seats, one seat each has been allocated to Lady Hardinge Medical College (New Delhi), LLRM Medical College (Meerut), Maulana Azad Medical College (Delhi), RSDKS Government Medical College (Ambikapur), Dumka Medical College (Jharkhand), MLB Medical College (Jhansi), and Chandulal Chandrakar Memorial Medical College (Durg). Meanwhile, the 2 BDS seats have been allocated to KG Dental College (Lucknow) and Government Dental College (Indore).

7 days allowed for application

According to the Ladakh administration, candidates holding a valid NEET rank and eligible for these central pool seats will be given 7 days to apply. Candidates must submit their applications via Ladakh's official NIC portal. The administration has advised eligible candidates to consult the guidelines published on the official UT Ladakh website for further information and details regarding the application process.
