There is significant news for the youth serving as 'Agniveers' in the Indian Armed Forces. The Government of India is considering extending the service tenure of Agniveers by two years. Several meetings have already been held regarding this, and a major decision could be announced soon. While there has been no official statement from the Armed Forces or the government yet, a decision is expected around November 21.

The first batch of Agniveers is set to complete their service on November 21.
It should be noted that the 'Agnipath' scheme was launched in 2022. The first batch of Agniveers recruited into the Indian Navy is scheduled to complete their service on November 21, 2026. In light of this, the government may offer an extension before their current term ends, ensuring that the first batch can also benefit from this provision.

Previously, the government had announced that 25% of Agniveers would be absorbed into permanent service. The remaining 75% could potentially be granted a two-year extension. However, it is not yet clear what percentage of Agniveers—or which specific personnel—will be granted this two-year extension.

When will the service tenure of Agniveers in each branch end?
The first batch of Agniveers in the Indian Navy is set to complete their service on November 21, followed by the first batch in the Indian Air Force on December 21, and the first batch in the Indian Army on December 31. Upon completion of their service, Agniveers will receive a one-time 'Seva Nidhi Package' of ₹11.71 lakh, which is entirely tax-free. Additionally, they will be provided with a skill certificate, which will assist them in securing future employment.
