A cold wave is sweeping through Ranchi, and schools from KG to 12th grade will remain closed until this date..
In view of the cold wave and severe cold in Ranchi, the district administration has taken a major decision. According to the order issued by Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate Manjunath Bhajantri, all government, government-aided, unaided (including minority), and private schools in Ranchi district will remain closed for classes from KG to 12th grade from January 9, 2026, to January 10, 2026.
The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of a further increase in cold in the coming days. This step has been taken keeping this in mind to protect students from the difficulties caused by the cold. The administration believes that commuting to and from school at this time could be risky for children.
Teachers' attendance is mandatory:
Although classes will remain suspended, all teachers and non-teaching staff working in government schools will be required to be present at the school. They will have to compulsorily register their attendance on the e-Vidyavahini portal and perform non-academic duties.
Decision on examinations left to schools:
In view of the severe cold and cold wave in Jharkhand, the administration has taken precautionary measures. The issued directives clarify that if any school has a mandatory examination scheduled during this period, the concerned school can decide whether to conduct or postpone it at its own discretion.
Earlier, the state's School Education and Literacy Department had ordered the suspension of classes in all schools across Jharkhand from January 6 to 8. Due to the more severe impact of the cold in the Ranchi district, schools were also closed on January 5 and 6. The administration says that this decision has been taken keeping in mind the health and safety of the students, so that children do not face any problems due to the cold and remain safe.
