A highly unusual and sophisticated high-tech method of cheating has come to light in Jhansi during the Preliminary Eligibility Test (PET) 2026, conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC). To evade security checks at the examination center, a candidate from Prayagraj concealed a Bluetooth device and other electronic equipment inside a sanitary pad, which he wore within his undergarments. However, his ruse was exposed when a faint rustling sound, emanating from the device, was heard inside the examination hall.

Meanwhile, approximately 10,000 candidates in Jhansi skipped the examination, while in Badaun, dozens of examinees were left wandering after Google Maps provided incorrect directions. According to Jhansi SP (City) Preeti Singh, the apprehended candidate has been identified as Akash Patel, a resident of Prayagraj. He had cunningly hidden the electronic device and Bluetooth setup inside a sanitary pad, which he wore under his clothing to gain entry into the center.

As the candidate attempted to solve the question paper, a ‘rustling’ sound began to emanate from him. The invigilator on duty grew suspicious and immediately alerted senior officials. A thorough search conducted by male and female security personnel led to the discovery of the Bluetooth device and other equipment hidden within the sanitary pad. An FIR has been registered against the candidate, and he has been arrested.

Over 10,000 candidates skip the exam in Jhansi

A total of 37 centers were established across Jhansi district for the PET examination. District Magistrate Gaurang Rathi and ADM (Administration) Sanjay Chawla stated that the entire examination was conducted under CCTV surveillance and remained completely free of any malpractice. In the first shift, 5,391 candidates skipped the examination, while 5,420 did so in the second shift. Thus, in Jhansi district alone, 10,811 candidates opted out of the exam.

Google Maps misleads candidates in Badaun

Meanwhile, candidates traveling from Sitapur, Lakhimpur, and Shahjahanpur to take the exam in Badaun were led significantly astray by Google Maps. The candidates were supposed to reach the 'De Paul School' examination center in Badaun, but Google Maps directed them to a location near the house of Gram Pradhan Kalicharan in the Musajhag area. As a result, many candidates faced considerable distress in trying to reach the center on time.
