New Delhi: 54 universities and institutions in India have made the country proud by making it to the QS World University Rankings 2026. In this ranking, the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has achieved the distinction of being the best institute in the country by securing the 123rd position. Expressing happiness over this achievement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on 'X', 'QS World University 2026 Rankings has brought very good news for our education sector. Our government is committed to further strengthening the research and innovation ecosystem for the benefit of the youth of India.'

'Only 11 universities were included in the list in 2014'

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also praised the universities of India and said, 'With a record 54 institutions among the best higher education institutions in the world, India has achieved a new height in the QS World University 2026 rankings. In 2014, only 11 universities were included in this list, whose number has now increased to 54. This 5-fold jump is a testimony to the transformative educational reforms initiated by the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji in the last decade. NEP 2020 is not only changing our educational landscape but is also revolutionizing it.'

8 new Indian institutions were included in the ranking this year

According to the ranking, IIT Delhi has jumped more than 70 places in 2 years. It was ranked 197th 2 years ago and 150th last year. This time it is ranked 123rd jointly with 'The Georgia Institute of Technology, US'. London-based global higher education analysis company 'Quacquarelli Symonds' (QS) releases this ranking every year, in which universities are assessed based on various performance indicators. This year, 8 new Indian institutions were included in the ranking, which has increased the number of Indian institutions to 54.

India made it to the fourth place in the list

After America (192 institutions), Britain (90 institutions) and China (72 institutions), India is at the fourth place with 54 institutions. India is at the first place in this matter by adding 8 new institutions in the list because no other country or region has added so many universities in the ranking this year. Jordan and Azerbaijan are at the second place with 6-6 universities. QS Chief Executive Officer Jessica Turner said, 'India is making a different place for itself in the global higher education scenario. So many universities of no other country have been included in this edition of QS World University Rankings. This is a good sign.'
