48 Teachers to Receive National Teacher Award; President to Confer Honors

The National Teachers’ Award 2026 ceremony will be held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The 48 teachers selected for this honor represent 27 states, 7 Union Territories, and 6 organizations under the Central Government.

On September 5, coinciding with Teachers’ Day, President Droupadi Murmu will confer the National Teachers’ Award 2026 upon 48 outstanding school teachers. The award ceremony will take place at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. These teachers have been selected for their remarkable contributions to improving the quality of school education, fostering student development, and advancing the field of education.

According to the Ministry of Education, the 48 teachers selected for the honor this year represent 27 states, 7 Union Territories, and 6 Central Government organizations. The awardees include 26 male and 22 female teachers. These educators serve in a variety of schools and educational institutions.

Selection of Teachers Conducted in Three Stages

The selection of teachers for the National Teachers’ Award was carried out in three stages. Candidates were evaluated first at the district level, then at the state level, and finally at the national level. This process identified teachers who have made significant contributions to school education and student development. An online nomination process was also conducted for the awards this year; the application window remained open from June 15 to July 20, 2026. Subsequently, a final list was prepared after evaluating candidates at the various levels.

26 Men and 22 Women Among the 48 Teachers

Of the 48 teachers selected for the National Teachers’ Award this year, 26 are men and 22 are women. The award-winning teachers hail from various parts of the country and diverse school backgrounds. In addition to teachers from state and Union Territory government schools, the list includes educators from Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodaya Vidyalayas, Sainik Schools, Eklavya Model Residential Schools, PM SHRI Schools, and other institutions. Teachers from a wide range of educational organizations have been included for the National Teachers’ Award this year. Awardees associated with central organizations include Radha Rajesh (CISCE), Sangeeta Yadav (CBSE), Zafar Alam (EMRS), Amutha J. and Manisha Khetrapal (Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan), Vaibhav Vasantrao Kulkarni (Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti), and Shiv Prasad Arvind Tingare (Sainik School).

Highest Number of Teachers from Uttar Pradesh

In terms of states, Uttar Pradesh has the highest representation, with three teachers selected for the National Teacher Award this year. Meanwhile, two teachers each from Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and West Bengal feature in the award list. Two teachers from the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan have also been selected. One teacher each from the remaining Union Territories and respective organizations has been chosen for the honor.

Documentary on Teachers to be Screened at the Ceremony

A short documentary showcasing the work and achievements of the selected teachers will be screened at the award ceremony on September 5th. Through this documentary, their contributions to the field of education and their efforts for the benefit of students will be presented to the audience.
