331 Posts Remain Vacant at UPPSC; Not a Single Candidate Could Qualify
Despite the hard work of thousands of aspirants, the UPPSC failed to find even a single candidate capable of meeting the prescribed shorthand standards. Not a single candidate was successful in the UPPSC APS examination.
A startling development has emerged from the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC). The Commission has released the results of a crucial recruitment examination in a manner that has left everyone astonished. Typically, in any recruitment examination, at least some candidates manage to reach the final round; however, the narrative was entirely different this time. In the UPPSC's Additional Private Secretary (APS) Examination-2023, a situation arose where not a single candidate was declared successful for the final stage. Consequently, all 331 vacancies advertised for recruitment remained unfilled.
In fact, there was considerable enthusiasm among the youth regarding the recruitment for the post of Additional Private Secretary. A large number of candidates participated in this recruitment process, which was conducted for 331 posts. The first-stage examination was held on January 7, 2024. Subsequently, the results were declared on March 4, 2024, in which 5,889 candidates were declared successful for the second stage.
Meanwhile, the second-stage examination was conducted in Lucknow between June 28, 2024, and July 18, 2024. A total of 4,240 candidates appeared in this stage. Everyone was hopeful that the selection process would now move forward and the final results would be released soon.
Where Did the Candidates Get Stuck?
The most critical component of this recruitment process was the examination for Hindi Shorthand and Hindi Typing. These specific skills were assessed during the second stage. According to the regulations, candidates were required to achieve a minimum speed of 80 words per minute in Hindi shorthand. It was not merely about speed; accuracy was equally essential.
The Commission clarified that not a single candidate managed to attain this proficiency level in accordance with the prescribed standards. This is the precise reason why no candidate was deemed eligible to proceed to the third stage of the examination. In other words, the recruitment process stalled at that very stage, and no one was able to reach the final selection phase.
No Appointments for 331 Posts
Since no candidate was able to advance beyond the second stage, the Commission faced a major dilemma regarding how to proceed with the recruitment process. Under the applicable rules, if no eligible candidates are available, the vacancies cannot be filled. On this basis, the Commission decided that the 331 posts would be carried forward—meaning that, for the time being, no appointments will be made to these positions. Subsequently, these vacancies may be filled through a new recruitment process.
