10 Teachers Dismissed in Uttarakhand for Working with Forged Documents
Discrepancies were discovered in the certificates for the Uttarakhand Teacher Eligibility Test (UTET) 2024. During verification, the roll numbers and marks listed on the certificates did not match the records held by the Uttarakhand Board of School Education, Ramnagar.
In Uttarakhand's Bageshwar district, the Education Department has terminated the services of 10 teachers who were employed in government primary schools based on forged documents. Investigations revealed irregularities in their UTET 2024 certificates; specifically, the roll numbers and marks on the certificates failed to match the official records of the Uttarakhand Board of School Education, Ramnagar. The department took this action based on the Board's report. Following the termination of their services, preparations are now underway to initiate legal action against these teachers. The department has instructed relevant officials to proceed with further action and has also raised questions regarding the document verification process that took place at the time of the teachers' initial appointment.
After the matter came to light, the teachers' certificates were cross-checked against the original records held by the Uttarakhand Board of School Education, Ramnagar. The investigation revealed that the marks and roll numbers on the certificates differed from the Board's original records. The Board had also provided details regarding the certificate verification in a report issued by the Chief Administrative Officer on August 10. Subsequently, the teachers were given an opportunity by the department to present their side of the case. According to Bageshwar's Chief Education Officer, Asaram Chaudhary, the teachers were granted three opportunities to present their defense during the departmental proceedings. While most of the teachers attended the first two hearings, more than half failed to appear for the third. Furthermore, they were unable to produce the original documents to substantiate the validity of their certificates.

Questions raised regarding verification at the time of appointment
Following this action, the major question arising is: if there were discrepancies in the certificates, how was their verification conducted at the time of appointment? The departmental inquiry is now questioning why the documents were not cross-checked against the original records during the verification process. The department has issued instructions for further legal action in these cases. It has also been stated that the scrutiny of other appointments and documents will continue. Further action may be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
